关于翻译工具：我用的是Random House Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary。这个电子辞典大概只要十几美元，是我见过的最好的辞典。对于参照英文注释学习原汁原味的英文是很好的帮手，同时字典还自带例句，发音，对于海外华人子女学习英语很有帮助。你会发现俞敏洪的GRE红宝书的不少注释来自于这个辞典。

关于参考书目：西西河有规定，第一，提倡使用中文；第二，反对全文文摘。但是我要翻译的这篇文章有很多参考书目，不一定都出自大报大杂志。硬翻之下，中文读者可能会对一些小出处不明所以。所以我把英文的参考书目单列于这篇帖子，中文的翻译在後文中出现。万一中文翻译有不贴切的地方，大家可以参考原文书目。或者就保持英文书目，如果不会妨碍阅读的话。

厚兄，我最近买了Random House Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary，装上后发现很多词和解释显示得都是乱码。上网搜了一下，看有人说是语言设置中non-Unicode设的是中文的缘故。我把这个设置改成英语后，果然字典里的乱码没有了，但是很多中文显示又不正常了。

厚兄有没有遇到这个问题？如果有，能否告知怎么解决？多谢了！

解决的方法也是把non-Unicode的设置改为英文的。不过我用的是英文操作系统，所以你改设置之后的问题我就没有遇到了。

另外也许是因为我用的是英文操作系统的原因，字典中的乱码只是在词条中有几个字母乱了而已，如果把词条和解释粘贴到word文档里，还是能够正常显示的。这么多年了，我也凑合着过来了，呵呵。

就是中间的那个“·”带来的问题。

个别解释也会出问题，是因为解释中包含了特殊符号，像引号。

我也是英文操作系统，不过non-Unicode设的是中文，否则有些中文显示不正常。

昨天还下了微软的AppLocale，不过一点作用都没有，不知道是不是自己的操作过程不对——按说不会，我仔细follow说明的。

有兄台的经验，我就不上心折腾它了，除了词条怪怪的，大体上是没有问题的。
